CUHP or Central University of Himachal Pradesh is a public University funded and regulated by the University Grants Commission (UGC). CUHP offers more than 45 courses across several disciplines including Science, Arts, Management, Technology, Education, etc. CUHP has been accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). It is also approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

New in CUHP: The admission date for CUHP 2023 starts from 2nd April - 30th April (Tentative). For the academic year 2023 CUHP will admit students based on their CUET scores for undergraduate courses. The CUET application procedure is due to start on 2nd April, 2023(Tentative) 

CUHP offers 7 undergraduate programmes and 23 post graduate programmes including 6 postgraduate Diploma courses as well as certificate courses. The undergraduate courses include B.Sc, B.A, B.Voc, B.Lib.ISc, and BFA. CUHP post graduate courses include M.Sc, M.A, MBA, M.Lib.ISc, MCA, and MSW. PhD courses are also offered at doctoral level. 

Admissions to the UG, PG, and Certificate courses are merit-based. However, admissions for post graduate courses depend on the entrance exams (FEAT) conducted by CUHP. Students can apply for PG via the university’s official website. Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree from a UGC recognized university with a minimum of 50 percent marks in total. The last date for registration, examination and results is September 2023(Tentative).

History

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, in his address to the nation on 15 August 2007, announced the establishment of a Central University in each of the states that did not already have a central university. Subsequently, the Planning Commission provided for the establishment of 16 new Central Universities according to the Central Universities Act 2009 (No. 25 of 2009) of the Indian Parliament. The act received presidential assent on 20 March 2009 and provided for the establishment of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh, amongst others. Professor Furqan Qamar, appointed as the first Vice Chancellor of University.[citation needed]

Organisation and administration

The President of India is the Visitor of the University. The Chancellor is the ceremonial head of the university while the executive powers rest with the Vice-chancellor. The Court, the Executive Council, the Academic Council, the Board of studies and the Finance Committee are the administrative authorities of the University.

The University Court is the supreme authority of the University and has the power to review, the broad policies and programmes of the University and to suggest measures for the improvement and development of the University; The Executive Council is the highest executive body of the University. The Academic Council is the highest academic body of the University and is responsible for the co-ordination and exercising general supervision over the academic policies of the University. It has the right to advise the Executive Council on all academic matters. The Finance Committee is responsible for recommending financial policies, goals, and budgets.[6]

CUET Admit Card (2023): The National Test Agency (NTA) will release the CUET Admit Card for 2023 on their official website. To download the admit card candidates will be asked to enter their application number, password and date of birth in the admit card link which will be available on the NTA CUET website. The CUET application form is due to release on 2nd of April 2023(Tentative).
