West Bengal University of Health Sciences: About Us

The West Bengal University of Health Sciences (WBUHS) was established in 2003 by an Act of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly to improve the management of health and medical education-related activities. Prior to its establishment, medical teaching in the state was supervised by various state universities, leading to disparities in teaching, learning, and evaluation standards. The need for parity in the medical education system led to the creation of WBUHS under the West Bengal University of Health Sciences Act, 2002, which was notified in the Kolkata Gazette in August 2002. The university officially came into being on January 1, 2003. WBUHS is the only one of its kind in the state and aims to cater to the needs of medical education in West Bengal.
