In addition to the nurture of two existent faculties namely Veterinary Sciences and Dairy Technology, the University initiated the Faculty of Poultry Science also to promote the education and enterprise in the Poultry Sector. Presently there are eight constituent colleges and an Academic Staff College undertaking academic, research and extension activities. This is yet another leap from just three colleges in 2010. Moreover with just less than 600 students in 2010, the University has shown impressive growth by enhancing student opportunity to around 3000 students at present with an annual intake of 600 students in a portfolio of 40 different academic programmes including distant learning programmes.

The University has explored productive academic and training collaborations with reputed academic institutions in India and abroad, most notably, University of Edinburgh, University of Western Australia, University of Connecticut, University of Minnesota, Indian Council for Agricultural Research, etc..
