Mission

The mission of NLSIU is to be at the forefront of transforming legal education in India. Founded in 1986 as the first National Law University, NLSIU is committed to pioneering reforms and driving the evolution of the Indian legal system through extensive research and policy interventions. NLSIU's mission includes the introduction of innovative approaches to legal education, exemplified by being among the first institutions to offer the five-year integrated law degree at the undergraduate level in 1988. For over 30 years, NLSIU has sustained its leadership in legal education, a success attributed to robust collaborations with legal academics, the Bar, the Bench, and the State Government of Karnataka. This enduring commitment positions NLSIU as a beacon for legal education excellence and systemic transformation in India.
