The Deccan College, Post-Graduate and Research Institute, Pune is the third oldest Educational Institute in India which was founded in the year of 1821. The H.R.D. Ministry, Government of India, awarded it the status of a Deemed University on 5 March 1990. It started functioning as Deemed University from 1 June 1994.

The Deccan College Post Graduate and Research Institute conducts courses at Postgraduate and Doctoral level in the fields of Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology, Linguistics, Lexicography, Sociology, Anthropology and Sanskrit studies.

• Admission to the M.A degree program is done on the basis of merit in the last qualifying examination
• Admission to the MPhil and Ph.D. degree programs shall be done through an Entrance Test
