• It gives me immense pleasure in welcoming you all to Forest Research Institute (Deemed) University. The Forest Research Institute (FRI), founded in 1906, is a premier institute in the field of forestry research, education and extension. Forest Research Institute, Dehradun was conferred the status of University in the year 1991 on the recommendation of the UGC, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The mission of the University is to promote forestry and environment education across different disciplines. In Forest Research Institute (Deemed) University, you will have an opportunity to learn from excellent faculty having significant field experience who are engaged in education and impactful research, drawn from Forest Research Institute, Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education, Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy, Wildlife Institute of India, Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, Indian Institute of Remote Sensing etc,. The M.Sc. and Ph.D programmes in Forest Research Institute (Deemed) University are well designed to cope with the ever dynamic field of forestry, environment and wood science. Equal emphasis is laid on theory sessions and field exposure during the entire programme. There are lot of other activities outside the classroom such as library sittings, sports, cultural get-togethers, wildlife week celebration, nature club and many more to engage the students which are of immense value for overall development.
