Greetings!

Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) blossomed from the roots of Madras Veterinary College (MVC) an internationally acclaimed, century old institution and in the year 1989, the constituent units were brought under the ambit of TANUVAS, the first Veterinary University in India.

Livestock Sector is an important subsector of agriculture in the Indian economy. As per the estimates of National Accounts Statistics (NAS) 2020, contribution of livestock in total agriculture and allied sector Gross Value Added (GVA) has increased from 24.32 per cent (2014-15) to 29.35 per cent (2019-20). Livestock sector contributed 4.35 per cent of total GVA in 2019-20. A continuous trend of increase in contribution to the agricultural economy has made the livestock sector the growth engine of agriculture sector.

Under the dynamic leadership of Hon’ble Chancellor, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and Hon’ble Pro-Chancellor, TANUVAS has geared up by harnessing the latest technologies in the field of education, research and extension. University has made tremendous progress in the last few decades with an immense infrastructure spread over in nine Colleges; twelve Research / Production Stations; fifteen Research Laboratories; twenty-seven outreach centres and a number of accredited laboratories.

Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University has been conferred with several accolades over the years. The University stood first among the State Veterinary Universities and twelfth among all Agricultural Institutions of the country in the latest ranking by ICAR. Some of the milestones worth mentioning include Patents obtained (19); leading veterinary institution in terms of publication of scientific articles; No. of MoUs (94) with nationally and internationally acclaimed organizations; accredited laboratories for disease diagnosis and feed analysis; Veterinary incubates and start-ups; commercialisation of vaccines and other technologies.
